Using the ACTS Method of Prayer
We may not realize it, but sometimes our prayer life can become selfish. Prayers are often 90% about fulfilling our own needs. Based loosely on the model prayer, the ACTS Method of Prayer can be an effective way of intentionally changing the focus of our hearts from ourselves to God whenever we speak to Him in prayer. These simple steps help keep our focus in check, creating a more meaningful prayer life and a deeper relationship with God.
ADORATION
Begin each prayer by adoring God for who He is. Express to Him how great He is and give praise to all the wonderful things He does.
CONFESSION
Next, humble yourself and confess your sins. Be specific.
THANKSGIVING
Now, list reasons you have to give Him thanks. We can always find more reasons to be thankful than we can to complain. Count your Blessings!
SUPPLICATION
Finally, make your requests to God.
ACTS is an easy acronym to remember. It's a simple way to add structure and focus to our prayer life, and a great way to teach children how to pray.
