Young people as well as adults, long to feel needed and heard. Positive growth stems from a sense of belonging and a yearning to make a difference. S.P.A.R.K. is a unique mentoring idea that builds authentic intergenerational relationships by solving real-life challenges in the church and in the community. The acronym stands for Select a Problem, Prepare a Plan, Assess the Situation, Review current Solutions, and Know your Solution.
The program will pair age groups of 16-24 with those aged 45 and up, and assign them a specific problem-solving challenge. Through the process of sharing ideas, thinking critically, and praying together, both will learn much about each other and about themselves. The energy is palpable and the benefits — countless! Some are:
Learning from one another
Making a positive difference through problem solving
Developing a deeper relationship with Jesus through shared prayer
Acquiring valuable leadership and critical thinking skills
Developing lasting friendships
What you will gain from a one-on-one mentoring relationship will far outweigh any feelings of intimidation you may have about doing it. To get involved, contact Krystal McKenzie at kids@ccvero.org.
